KKNPP Unit-1 Power Generation Suspended After Turbine Tech Snag

Scientists and technical experts are working to rectify the turbine fault and restore power generation at the earliest.

Tirunelveli: The power generation at Unit-I of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) was suspended again on Wednesday night following a sudden technical fault in the turbine section, resulting in loss of 1,000 MW of electricity generation.

Scientists and technical experts are working to rectify the turbine fault and restore power generation at the earliest.

The Plant, established with Russian assistance in Tirunelveli district, comprises two nuclear reactors, each with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW. The Unit I had only recently resumed operations after repairs to a generator fault that had led to an earlier shutdown. The fresh technical snag in the turbine section has once again forced the reactor to be taken offline.

Meanwhile, unit-II continues to function normally, generating its full installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
