Keeladi-Vedic Civilisation Row: 5 Hindu Outfit Leaders in Preventive Custody Over Social Media Posts

THANJAVUR: The police here took into preventive custody five office-bearers of Hindu outfits on Saturday following their views on social media against the theme of Makkal Isai Vizha, organised by Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam in Thanjavur.
The theme of the festival was ‘Keeladi Nagarihathai Uyarthi Pidi, Veda Nagarihathai Thurathiyadi’ (Uphold the civilisation of Keeladi, chase away the Vedic civilisation).
Hindu outfit office-bearers expressed strong objection to the ‘Veda Nagarihathai Thurathiyadi’ part of the theme.
Those who were taken into preventive custody include R. Gunasekar, Tiruchy division secretary of the Hindu Munnani, R. Karthik Rao Bhonsle, state secretary of the youth wing of the Hindu Makkal Katchi, Pazha. Santhosh Kumar, president, the Hindu Ilaignar Ezhuchi Peravai, G. Kubendran, district secretary of the youth wing of the Hindu Munnani, and T. Divakar, executive committee member.
