Kamal Haasan Meets CM Vijay, Eyes Govt To Launch Digital Platform
Kamal Haasan submitted six key demands aimed at strengthening the Tamil film industry.

Veteran actor-politician Kamal Haasan met newly appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and submitted six key demands aimed at strengthening the Tamil film industry. Among the major proposals was a request for a mandatory eight-week OTT release window for films released in the state.
Kamal argued that delaying digital premieres would help theatres and distributors sustain themselves in an increasingly competitive market dominated by streaming platforms.
Taking to X, Kamal shared the list of proposals he submitted to the Tamil Nadu government:
Launch a Tamil Nadu Government-owned OTT platform to stream Tamil films, independent cinema and documentaries.
Abolish the 4% local body entertainment tax.
Form a dedicated anti-piracy unit within the Tamil Nadu Police Cyber Crime Department with powers for real-time takedowns of pirated content.
Permit five shows per day for all films across Tamil Nadu to improve theatre revenues.
Introduce a mandatory eight-week OTT release window for all films to protect theatrical business and support distributors.
Provide a production incentive of up to 10% of a film’s budget for projects completing more than 50% of their shoot in Tamil Nadu, with the aim of restoring the state as a major filmmaking hub.
Sharing details of the meeting, Kamal wrote that he personally congratulated Vijay and appreciated the warmth and humility shown during their interaction.
“Today, I met the Honorable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Brother Vijay and conveyed my wishes. He shared several dreams for the development of Tamil Nadu, and the affection and humility he displayed filled me with pride,” Kamal stated.
