Thoothukudi: Startup founders should have the confidence to identify emerging problems, develop solutions and turn their ideas into successful ventures, Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi said while inaugurating the two-day National Startup Summit 2026 in Thoothukudi on Thursday.

The summit, titled ‘Thoothukudi to the World’, is being organised jointly by the All-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority to promote the startup ecosystem and showcase Thoothukudi’s potential to the global business community.

More than 1,000 young startup founders participated on the first day of the summit, which seeks to familiarise budding entrepreneurs with opportunities under government startup initiatives and encourage more youngsters to take up entrepreneurship.

Addressing the gathering, Ms Kanimozhi said rapid technological advances, particularly the growth of artificial intelligence, were transforming industries and creating new challenges. Startup founders should be prepared to confront these challenges and develop practical solutions to problems faced by society and industry, she said.

“The biggest challenge for a startup is to identify a problem and create a solution even before everyone begins discussing it. Once you find a solution, you should have the confidence to implement it,” said Ms Kanimozhi, adding that the startups, with their smaller teams, could understand people’s needs and respond to them more quickly than large corporations. She said that startup founders should retain the confidence that they could succeed and should not give up their efforts, as determination was the foundation for success.

More than 150 startup exhibition stalls showcasing ventures and opportunities have been set up at the summit. Over 25 industry experts are conducting sessions on entrepreneurship and business development. Around 80 startups are participating in a national technology solution development competition, while investor meetings, startup awards, panel discussions and business networking sessions are also being held.
