Health Minister Denies Rapid Spread of Swine Flu in TN

Addressing the media at the airport, the minister said the government is carrying out medical tests for swine flu among the people who are coming to the hospitals with complaints of fever.

Chennai: Health minister K.G. Arunraj on Wednesday said 1,300 persons were affected by swine flu while it was 1,258 in August last year. It could not be said the disease is spreading rapidly since there is not much difference compared to last year, he said.

Addressing the media at the airport, the minister said the government is carrying out medical tests for swine flu among the people who are coming to the hospitals with complaints of fever. There is nothing to be afraid of since the disease could be cured, he said, adding there is sufficient stock of tablets and medicines with the hospitals.

He said the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is strongly opposing the BJP but the DMK is under pressure to compromise with the BJP since many former DMK ministers are facing corruption cases. There is no alternative opinion on the need for an airport for Chennai and the government is considering a new place. All the development schemes would be implemented without affecting the people, he assured. If the DMK came out with constructive views in the Assembly, the TVK would also make similar speeches. But the TVK is ready to counter the DMK on all issues, he added.
