HC Rejects Nehru’s Plea Against Registering FIR Against Him In Cash-For-Jobs Scam

The Advocate General said Nehru could not claim that he was unaware of the proceedings against him and should not have waited till the passing of the orders to challenge the proceedings.

Chennai: Madras high court on Monday rejected a petition by former minister K.N. Nehru, seeking a review of an earlier order by the court to register FIR against him based on the materials shared by the Enforcement Directorate in the cash-for-jobs scam.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan, dismissed the petition after hearing the arguments of Advocate Vijay Narayanan and senior advocate Siddhartha Dave who appeared for the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC)

The Advocate General said Nehru could not claim that he was unaware of the proceedings against him and should not have waited till the passing of the orders to challenge the proceedings. It was a classic case of a person sitting on the fence and waiting till the orders are passed to challenge it. The AG argued that such a person could not come and say that he had a right to be heard. . He charged the previous DMK government with delaying the prosecution in a bid to shield its minister. The earlier direction to register FIR against Nehru was given by a bench headed by former Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava.
