Chennai: Putting an end to the controversy over not singing of the Tamil anthem, Tamil Thai Vazhthu,’ as the first item in the agenda of government functions, the government issued an order mandating its singing first before other songs.
The Government Order, dated August 12, cited the resolution, moved by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, and passed unanimously in the Assembly on August 10, and said that the song, ‘Neerarum Kadaludutha, written by Manonmaniam Sundaranar should be sung before that start of government functions and events in educational institutions.
Singing of the song embodied a respect to Tamil language and culture and should be compulsorily rendered as the first item in the agenda of all public events in the State, the GO said.
