GCC to Conduct Special Door-to-Door E-waste Collection Drive on Oct. 31
The civic body has urged residents not to mix e-waste with regular household garbage during the special drive

Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) will conduct a special door-to-door collection drive for electronic waste (e-waste) across the city on October 31 as part of the Union government's special campaign 6.0 to promote the safe collection, segregation and scientific disposal of discarded electronic items.
Conservancy workers will visit households to collect unused and discarded electronic and electrical appliances, including old mobile phones, chargers, computers, laptops, keyboards, electrical cables and other electronic devices.
The civic body has urged residents not to mix e-waste with regular household garbage but to segregate it and hand it over separately to conservancy workers during the special drive.
Improper disposal of electronic waste, particularly dumping it in public places, along roadsides or into water bodies, can cause environmental pollution and pose health risks. The collected waste will be sent to authorised e-waste recycling agencies for processing and recycling in accordance with the prescribed regulations.
As part of the special campaign 6.0, the Union government has directed all rural and urban local bodies to strengthen e-waste collection, segregation and disposal mechanisms.
The GCC appealed to residents, resident welfare associations, educational institutions, commercial establishments and other organisations to participate in the drive.
