TIRUCHY: The Joint Movement of Farmers' Associations has decided to approach the Supreme Court against the Karnataka government move to construct a new dam at Mekedatu and to support the Tamil Nadu government's proposed case against Karnataka in the Supreme Court.

Movement's president Cauvery Dhanapalan told media persons at Tiruchy on Saturday that a meeting of various farmers leaders, advocates of Supreme Court and high court was held to discuss steps to approach the Supreme Court in this connection.

He said the meeting welcomed the Tamil Nadu government for passing a special resolution in the state assembly against Karnataka's move to construct a reservoir at Mekedatu, and also decided to approach the Supreme Court on behalf of the farmers organisations against Karnataka's adamant attitude.

He said as this is an issue between two states, individuals cannot move the Supreme Court and so they will collect technical details and submit to the Tamil Nadu government.
