Farmers' Association Leaders Dissatisfied with Agri Budget

Farmers said that a complete farm loan waiver and drought relief had not been announced for farmers in the delta districts

Erode: In a joint statement, Tamil Nadu United Farmers' Association state president E.V.K. Shanmugam, Lower Bhavani Irrigation farmers' welfare association president C. Nallasamy, and Lower Bhavani Irrigation protection association President Ravi said that none of the farmers' long-pending demands or the key promises made by TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) during the election campaign had been fulfilled through this budget.

The statement said that a complete farm loan waiver and drought relief had not been announced for farmers in the delta districts. The demands to fix the Minimum Support Price (MSP) at ₹3,000 per quintal for paddy and Rs.4,500 per tonne for sugarcane, increase in the procurement price of Aavin, and proper measures to protect paddy stored at the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) Direct Paddy Procurement Centres had been ignored, they said.
