EPS Should Be Ashamed Of Ties With BJP: DMK

Regupathy recalled a series of scams and scandals that erupted during the AIADMK regime and said that the claim that he provided good governance was to whitewash all the misdeeds: Reports

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami should be ashamed of having an alliance with the BJP that denigrated the people of Tamil Nadu by calling them thieves and brutes during the Odisha and Bihar Assembly elections and should not feel proud to be associated with that party, State Minister for Natural Resources S Regupathy said on Wednesday.

Reacting to the statements of Palaniswami and the resolutions passed at the AIADMK’s general council meeting at Vanagaram in Chennai earlier on Wednesday, Regupathy mocked at the party general secretary’s claim that the AIADMK would win 210 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections, saying that it was nothing but a way of tickling the general council members to enthuse the party workers.

Referring to the ‘forecast’ of the Palaniswami that the DMK ministers would land to safe places (jail) in the next 100 days, he asked what locus standi he had to say that when he went and pledged his party to the BJP just after two raids were conducted at the houses of his relatives.

Palaniswami was making a fool of himself by blabbering at the general council to justify his decision to align with the BJP now after the exhibition of bravado at the SDPI meeting in Madurai in January 2024 assuring the people that his party that was impelled to join hands with the BJP in the interest of the people taking into account the then prevailing circumstances and would never ever go back to it, he said.

Mocking at the arithmetic of the AIADMK general secretary who derived at the 210 seat win formula for the AIADMK that lost all the 39 seats to the DMK alliance by claiming that the AIADMK had polled more votes in 10 Assembly segments in the Lok Sabha constituencies and by adding the votes of the BJP to arrive at a percentage of 41.33, Regupathy said that in 2024 the BJP and AIADMK contested under different coalitions and that the BJP had other allies with it.

But not no other party was with the AIADMK other than the BJP and the TMC now and it was common sense that the DMK alliance could not have been defeated even if the AIADMK had fought the elections along with the BJP in 2024 or even in 2026, he said.

Regupathy recalled a series of scams and scandals that erupted during the AIADMK regime and said that the claim that he provided good governance was to whitewash all the misdeeds. Also he asked why the AIADMK lost the elections in 2021 if its rule was an exemplary one, as claimed by him.
