EPS Accuses CM Vijay of Inaction on Mekedatu
Condemning the Chief Minister for working against the interest of Tamil Nadu by having an alliance with the Congress in Karnataka.
Chennai: Accusing Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay of not acting on Karnataka government's latest overtures on constructing a new dam across River Cauvery at Mekedatu, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said a doubt arises if the Tamil Nadu government was in cohorts with its Karnataka counterpart in cheating the people.
In a message on social media on Tuesday, Palaniswami referred to Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's declaration that a central team had visited the site where the Karnataka government had planned to construct the dam without the consent of the lower riparian States of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and said the TVK government had not reacted to it.
Palaniswami said the news about Shivakumar meeting the Union Minister for Jal Shakti (Water Resources), C R Patil and seeking permission for the new dam had also given rise to the suspicion over the Karnataka Government and the Union Government working hand in hand to spite the farmers of Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister had neither opened his mouth on the release of water from Cauvery to Tamil Nadu nor on the proposal to construct the new dam, Palaniswami said, wondering if Vijay was at least aware of the fact that the dam across Cauvery could not be constructed without the approval of Tamil Nadu.
Condemning the Chief Minister for working against the interest of Tamil Nadu by having an alliance with the Congress in Karnataka, the AIADMK leader wanted him to convene an all-party meeting immediately to discuss the issue and put pressure on the Karnataka and Union Governments to refrain from constructing the dam.
