Chennai:A Scoot Airlines flight from Chennai to Singapore was cancelled after the pilot detected an engine malfunction while the aircraft was taxiing for take-off late on Friday night, averting a potentially serious incident. The flight, carrying 310 passengers and 12 crew members, was scheduled to depart around midnight.
According to airport sources, all passengers had boarded and the aircraft doors had been closed when the aircraft began taxiing towards the runway. The pilot detected an engine-related problem before the aircraft could take off and immediately stopped the plane on the runway. The pilot informed the airport control authorities, following which the aircraft was towed back to its parking bay.
The passengers were subsequently asked to disembark and were accommodated at the airport while a team of engineers examined the aircraft and attempted to rectify the technical problem. However, the repair work could not be completed even by around 5 am, following which the airline announced the cancellation of the flight.
The passengers were later taken in buses to various hotels in Chennai, where accommodation was arranged for them. The airline has informed the passengers that the aircraft is expected to depart for Singapore on Saturday night after the technical issue is rectified. The incident caused a brief commotion at Chennai airport.
