Don’t Borrow PT Period: Udhayanidhi
For students interested in sports, the State government, the sports department and the Chief Minister would always be supportive, Udhayanidhi said, urging them to excel both in studies and sports.

Chennai: Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin urged teachers not to borrow Physical Training (PT) periods in schools to conduct other classes because PT was the right of every student and in that period every student should indulge in sports practice.
Speaking at an event organized at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium on Tuesday to felicitate and distributed certificates of appreciation to school student who had brought laurels from international, national and State level sports events during the year 2024-25, Udhayanidhi Stalin urged the students to never give up on pursuing their passion in sports.
For students interested in sports, the State government, the sports department and the Chief Minister would always be supportive, he said, urging them to excel both in studies and sports. He told them to devote a certain time every day for sports practice.
More than the education that one can draw from the text books, students could inculcate qualities like cooperation, group work, confidence, friendship, strategy, planning and execution from sports, he said.
In sports, perseverance was as important as winning, he said and narrated the story of Olympic runner from Britain, Derek Raymond, who suffered a hamstring injury while participating in the 400 metres race but continued to run. His father too joined him from the spectators’ gallery to help the son finish the race.
The father and son received an unprecedented standing ovation when they completed the race together and that was an example of perseverance, said Udhyanidhi Stalin, who personally distributed 5,788 certificates of appreciation to winners of gold, silver and bronze medals in a wide range of international, national and district sports meets.
