DMK-Congress Alliance Will Save India: CM Stalin

Chennai: The mutual understanding between the DMK and the Congress that had led to the forging of a strong alliance between the parties based on principles would definitely salvage the future of India, Chief Minister M K Stalin averred, dispelling all doubts raised in recent times over the future of the tie-up between the two parties in the context of some recent political developments.
Speaking after solemnizing the self-respect marriage of the grandson of a late Congress veteran, R Chokkar, at the Anna Arivalayam’s Kalaignar Hall on Monday, Stalin said that the DMK and the Congress were now in the same alliance for ensuring the nation’s welfare, Tamil Nadu’s growth and India’s unity though the two parties were once upon a time pursuing diverse paths.
Apart from the two parties now travelling with the same aspirations, the young leader of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi, had enormous love for him personally that he was the only political leader whom he addressed as ‘brother,’ he said.
Whenever Rahul Gandhi met Stalin or spoke to him over telephone he always called him ‘my dear brother,’ and treated him like an elder brother, something he could never forget, the Chief Minister said.
The political friendship that had blossomed into a principled alliance was reverberating as the voice of India, which was an emotion that he expected from all since it had transcended personal bonds and touched the realm of national welfare, Stalin said at the wedding attended by several Congress functionaries.
Greeting the newly married couple, Sivaraja Sri Raja and S Salubharathi, Stalin said the bride’s family also had a connection with the DMK as they lived in a house opposite to that of DMK founder C N Annadurai in Kanchipuram.
Stalin also recalled the friendship between Chokkar and M Karunanidhi, saying that Chokkar was the first recipient of the State government’s Kamaraj Award and narrated other interesting anecdotes involving Chokkar and Karunanidhi in the State Assembly.
The recent expression of resentment by TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai, who is also the Sriperumbudur MLA, over the opening of the Chembarambakkam reservoir without his knowledge and Rahul Gandhi calling up Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam president Vijay following the September 27 stampede at Karur were speculated as indicators of the Congress desire to break free from the DMK alliance.
But Stalin’s speech at the marriage of a former Congress MLA’s grandson put an end to all speculations and sent across the message that all was well with the DMK-led coalition in the State.
