DMK Can't Win Without Alliance Votes: Arjuna
“Can the DMK win an election on its own without the votes of its alliance partners? Can it win in Chepauk without the Muslim votes and the votes of its alliance partners?” he asked.

Chennai:Public works minister and TVK election campaign management general secretary Aadhav Arjuna has questioned the DMK's ability to win elections on its own without the support of its alliance partners, including Muslim voters. He attacked the DMK for concentration of political power within a family.
Addressing a campaign meeting of the Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance at Madurantakam on Friday in support of TVK candidate Maragatham Kumaravel, Mr Arjuna said the alliance stood for secularism, social justice and a greater share in governance and political power.
“Can the DMK win an election on its own without the votes of its alliance partners? Can it win in Chepauk without the Muslim votes and the votes of its alliance partners?” he asked.
Arjuna alleged that political power in Tamil Nadu had for years remained concentrated around particular families and parties. He said the practice of seeking the votes of alliance partners and subsequently limiting their share in power to one or two per cent should change.
Taking aim at the DMK, Mr Arjuna alleged that while the party spoke about ideology, political power remained concentrated within the family. He said political power should extend across communities and alliance partners rather than pass from one generation of a family to another.
He claimed that TVK had won 108 seats in the 2026 Assembly election without distributing money for votes and attributed the result to the support of women and young voters.
He said the TVK's emphasis on corruption-free governance included ending the alleged practice of commissions in government departments and plugging leakages in funds allocated for government schemes. “Only by first stopping the leakage of funds meant for government schemes can genuine development be achieved,” he said.
Arjuna also said the TVK-led alliance would contest the Madurantakam bypoll without distributing money to voters and would seek votes on the basis of public trust and the policies of its alliance leaders.
