DMK Alleges Poll Official Asked Elderly Woman to Vote for Whistle Symbol

Tirupur: Commotion broke out after the DMK alleged that an election official asked an elderly woman to vote for the Whistle symbol, even though she wanted to vote for the Rising Sun symbol in the Dharapuram bypoll held on Tuesday.

DMK cadres besieged the polling station and staged a protest, and polling was halted for 90 minutes.

Jeyisin Bibi (65) sought the help of a poll official at the polling station in Kolinjivadi Municipal Middle School complex, to vote for the DMK symbol but alleged she

was asked by the official to vote for the Whistle symbol. n Dharapuram. Jeyisin Bibi cast her vote for the Rising Sun symbol, came out of the polling station, and complained about the official.

When DMK cadres protested, and demanded action, Dharapuram RDO Felix Raja, the election officer, said a proper inquiry would be conducted, and the complaint would be forwarded to the Election Commission.

The official responsible for applying indelible ink, Thangamani, was transferred, and Rajammal appointed in his place.
