Defeat TVK Candidates to Prevent Further Acts of Betrayal: EPS
Palaniswami said those who betrayed the AIADMK formed by MGR and later led by J. Jayalalithaa had become the TVK candidates.
Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami in his final appeal to the voters before the end of the election campaign for the by-polls to Madhuranthagam and Dharapuram asked them to vote for the AIADMK to teach a lesson to ‘betrayal and abuse of power’. .
In a statement here on Sunday, Palaniswami said the people of the two constituencies should make history by giving a verdict which would stop anyone from thinking of betraying their party. He said the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is running a minority government with the support of other parties through various machinations though it did not have the majority in the Assembly.
He charged that the TVK indulged in ‘horse-trading’ with the MLAs elected on behalf of the AIADMK and some of the ‘betrayers’ resigned their MLA posts and joined the TVK resulting in by-polls in Madhuranthagam and Dharapuram.
Palaniswami said those who betrayed the AIADMK formed by MGR and later led by J. Jayalalithaa had become the TVK candidates. There was widespread opposition to them from the people since they are seeking votes again. He also alleged that the TVK is resorting to wrong methods to get the people’s votes since they are afraid of electoral defeat, the AIADMK leader opined.
The people are ready to teach a lesson to the behind the scene actions of TVK to turn a minority government into a majority government. He expressed confidence that the victory of AIADMK candidates was assured since people went to his election campaign meetings in large numbers in a spontaneous manner. He appealed to the people to vote for the Madhuranthagam AIADMK candidate Kanitha Sampath and Dharapuram party nominee K. Banumathi and make them victorious.
