Class 8 Student Injured in Sickle Attack Over Pencil Dispute in Tamil Nadu

A quarrel over sharing a pencil leads to a violent attack, leaving one student and a teacher injured

A Class 8 student in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, was injured on Tuesday after being attacked by his classmate with a sickle. The attack reportedly stemmed from a long-standing quarrel between the two boys, which began over a dispute about sharing a pencil. The boys had not been on speaking terms for some time before the violent altercation.

According to a senior police official, the victim sustained minor cut injuries to two or three places on his body, but his condition is now described as “normal.” A teacher who tried to intervene in the incident also suffered a minor injury while attempting to break up the fight. Both the injured student and teacher are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.

Relatives of the victim have expressed deep concern over the fact that a Class 8 student had brought a dangerous weapon, such as a sickle, to school. They suspect that the attack may have been premeditated, given the weapon involved. Authorities are now investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to understand the full extent of the altercation and the circumstances surrounding it.

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding student safety and discipline in schools, especially with the introduction of dangerous weapons. Local police are expected to take further action and work with school authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future. The case highlights the need for increased vigilance and stronger measures to ensure the safety of students on school premises.
