Children at A-Rated Jana Nayagan Screenings Disrupt Shows in Chennai
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the film an adults-only certificate, making it ineligible for viewers below the age of 18
Screenings of Jana Nayagan, the latest film starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C. Joseph Vijay, were disrupted at several theatres in Chennai this week after children were found attending the shows despite the film carrying an 'A' certificate.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the film an adults-only certificate, making it ineligible for viewers below the age of 18. However, during the 9.25 a.m. show at PVR Cinemas in Ampa Mall, several families entered the auditorium with children.
After the violation came to light, police and theatre staff intervened, halting the screening for nearly an hour. Families accompanied by minors were asked to leave, and the theatre management announced that ticket costs would be refunded.
Similar incidents were reported at a few other theatres in Chennai, where screenings were either delayed or temporarily stopped after minors were allowed to enter.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is being promoted as Vijay's final film before his full-time entry into politics. The political action drama also features Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde in key roles.
Released on July 23, the film has grossed more than ₹230 crore worldwide.
