Breakfast Scheme Named After K. Kamaraj
The Tamil Nadu government has renamed the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme as the Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Breakfast Scheme and allocated ₹217.63 crore for 2026–27 to provide free breakfast to over 12.87 lakh students.

The Chief Minister’s Breakfast scheme, launched on September 15, 2022, during the earlier DMK regime has been renamed as ‘Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Breakfast scheme’ by the TVK government, earning kudos from TNCC president Manickam Tagore, who thanked Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay for the rechristening.
The State government has allotted Rs 217,63,09,395 for serving free breakfast to students in government and government aided schools under the to the scheme for the financial year 2026-27, according to an official notification.
To serve breakfast to 12,87,133 students, the government normally spends Rs 343,55,00,000 on the basis of an allotment of Rs 12.71 per day for 210 days.
