Action Taken On NGO Complaint

An official press release on Monday said that a preliminary enquiry by the Additional Chief Secretary of the State found irregularities in the assigning of a couple of projects involving beautification of the city, water saving project, setting up of a pillar and so on by the Commissioner.

Chennai: Acting on a complaint of irregularities in the awarding of contracts filed by an anti-corruption NGO, ‘Arapor Iyakkam,’ the State government relieved the Tambaram Corporation Commissioner S Balachandar of all duties and placed him under compulsory wait, besides assigning Avadi Corporation Commissioner R Saranya full responsibilities.

An official press release on Monday said that a preliminary enquiry by the Additional Chief Secretary of the State found irregularities in the assigning of a couple of projects involving beautification of the city, water saving project, setting up of a pillar and so on by the Commissioner.

Though no public funds were involved in the two projects that were funded by a private company, the zonal executive engineer was suspended and the Commissioner placed on compulsory wait since the irregularities were detected in the calling for tenders for the work, the press release said.

Further detailed investigation had been ordered into issue and all those found guilty of irregularities would be taken to task, the release said.
