43 EVs Deployed to Collect Waste From Houses in Coimbatore City
The initiative was launched using the corporate social responsibility fund of Leap Green Energy Private Limited(LGEPL).
Coimbatore:The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation(CCMC) has begun a new chapter in solid waste management by deploying 43 electric vehicles for door-to-door collection of garbage.
The initiative was launched using the corporate social responsibility fund of Leap Green Energy Private Limited(LGEPL). It was inaugurated on Saturday by Backward Classes Minister V. Sampath Kumar. Coimbatore Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar, CCMC Commissioner Katta Ravi Tea, Singanallur MLA K.S. Sri Giri Prasath, and Dev Anand Vijayan, the CEO of LGEPL, were present.
The LGEPL donated Rs 86 lakh for the project. An EV can travel up to 80 to 100 km per single electricity charge. It can carry around 500 kg of waste and will cover around 250 households daily. The vehicle will systematically support the door-to-door collection and segregation of waste and garbage into wet, dry, sanitary and special care categories at the source level, by making the residents dump the waste in the collection drums in specific colours, and to transport them for safe disposal.
The minister also inaugurated the anti-rabies vaccine drive for stray dogs with a target to make Coimbatore city limit rabies-free by 2030.
