25% Wage Hike for TASMAC Employees SMAC
Announcing the salary hike, State Minister for Prohibition and Excise, K Vignesh told the media on Tuesday that strict action, including dismissal from service, would be taken against employees found selling liquor above the MRP.

Chennai: The State government announced a 25 percent wage hike for employees of TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation), the company that buys and sells liquor in the State ostensibly to quell the rebellion that was brewing among the employees after the screws were being tightened to prevent overcharging of customers.
Announcing the salary hike, State Minister for Prohibition and Excise, K Vignesh told the media on Tuesday that strict action, including dismissal from service, would be taken against employees found selling liquor above the MRP.
Illegal sales of liquor at times other than the business hours of TASMAC shops, from 12 noon to 10 pm, and the overcharging of Rs 10 per bottle were two major issues that had been put an end to after the TVK government took charge, much to the chagrin of the employees.
Since the steps taken by the government impacted the TASMAC employees, the placed a demand for an increase in salary and hence it was sanctioned by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, he said
Hitherto, TASMAC employees were given hikes amounting to Rs 500 or Rs 750 or Rs 2,000 but now the Chief Minister had considered the demands of the employees and ordered a 25 percent wage hike, he said.
So the salary of assistant salespeople will go up from Rs 14,340 to Rs 17,925, that of salespeople from Rs 15,530 to Rs 19,413, that of supervisors from Rs 17,850 to Rs 22,313, he said, adding that the wage hike would result in an additional expenditure of Rs 110.74 crore to the Government, taking the total annual wage expenditure of TASMAC employees to Rs 553.72 crore.
