Suravaram Pratap Reddy pivotal figure in Telangana's political and social renaissance: SIngireddy
Hyderabad: The 128th birth anniversary of Suravaram Pratap Reddy, an eminent Telugu literary figure and social reformer from the Palamuru region, was marked by a series of commemorative events. The day commenced with a garlanding ceremony at his statue on Tank Bund, attended by prominent leaders, including former Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy.
In his address, Singireddy Niranjan Reddy lauded Suravaram Pratap Reddy as a pivotal figure in Telangana's political and social renaissance. He highlighted Reddy's multifaceted contributions as a writer, orator, social reformer, editor, and poet. "Suravaram Pratap Reddy's legacy as a newspaper editor, researcher, scholar, and leader of movements is unparalleled. His relentless efforts in documenting the history and struggles of the locals are immortalised in his writings," said Singireddy.
Suravaram Pratap Reddy's endeavours to counter the criticism that Telangana lacked poets led to the creation of the 'Golconda Kavula Sanchika,' a comprehensive anthology of 354 poets, complete with biographical details. His editorial excellence was showcased in his work with renowned publications such as Golconda magazine, Bharati Sahitya magazine, and Prajavani magazine. Among his significant works are 'Social History of the Andhras', 'Festivals of Hindus', 'Hindu Dharma Veerulu', and '.'
Singireddy Niranjan Reddy emphasised Suravaram's role in awakening the Telugu people and promoting their language and culture. His transition into politics saw him elected to the Hyderabad State Legislative Assembly from the Wanaparthy constituency. Recognising his services, a statue of Suravaram Pratap Reddy stands on Tank Bund in Hyderabad.
"I have dedicated years to compiling three remarkable books about Suravaram's legacy through SNR Publications. Titled 'Suravaram Telangana,' these compilations delve into various societal aspects, focusing on Suravaram's era and beyond," Singireddy added.
The evening event at Suravaram Pratap Reddy Auditorium in Desodharaka Bhavan, LB Stadium, was marked by the presentation of the Suravaram Pratap Reddy Sahitya Vyjayanti Sahithi Puraskaram for 2024 to senior journalist Tirunagiri Udayavaralu. The award ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Dr KI Varaprasad Reddy, President of Shantha Vasantha Trust, and presided over by Dr Elluri Shiva Reddy, President of Suravaram Pratap Reddy Sahitya Vyjayanti Trust. Guests of Honour included Virahat Ali, President of the Telangana State Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ), and Suravaram Pushpalata, secretary of the Suravaram Pratap Reddy Sahitya Vyjayanti Trust.
The event celebrated Suravaram Pratap Reddy's enduring impact on Telugu literature, culture, and social reforms, whose work continues to inspire current and future generations to strive for societal betterment and cultural enrichment, guests said.
