Thrissur Tops Among Keralam Cities in Oxford Economics Global Cities Index
At the national level, Delhi was India's highest-ranked city, occupying 268th position globally
Thrissur has emerged as the highest-ranked city in Keralam in the latest Oxford Economics Global Cities Index, securing 477th position globally and seventh among Indian cities featured in the ranking.
The index, compiled by Oxford Economics, evaluates 1,000 functional urban areas across 163 countries using indicators covering economic performance, human capital, quality of life, environmental conditions and governance.
Thrissur's ranking places it ahead of Kochi, which stood at 489th globally, and Kozhikode at 499th. Seven cities from Kerala have been included in the global index, with Kollam ranked 623rd, Thiruvananthapuram 624th, Kottayam 696th and Kannur 772nd.
The latest ranking marks a change at the top among Keralam's cities. Kochi had been the state's highest-ranked urban centre in the previous edition, but Thrissur has now moved ahead with a stronger overall performance.
At the national level, Delhi was India's highest-ranked city, occupying 268th position globally. Bengaluru followed at 311th, while Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune ranked 330th, 381st, 421st and 427th respectively.
With its 477th global position, Thrissur was placed immediately after these six major Indian metropolitan centres. The ranking included more than 90 Indian cities, making India one of the most extensively represented countries in the index.
The Oxford Economics index measures urban performance across five broad categories: economics, human capital, quality of life, environment and governance.
Ahmedabad ranked 571st globally and 15th among Indian cities. The Gujarat city performed relatively strongly in economics and human capital but recorded lower positions in quality of life and environmental indicators.
Other Gujarat cities included Surat at 697th, Vadodara at 702nd and Rajkot at 824th.
At the global level, New York retained the top position for the second consecutive year. London ranked second, followed by Paris in third place.
