THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a shocking turn of events, the postmortem examination report of the three-year-old girl who was killed allegedly by her mother in Ernakulam district of Kerala revealed that the child was sexually assaulted multiple times before her death.
The maternal uncle of the child has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO ) Act. The police disclosed that the postmortem revealed injuries in the child's private parts.
The accused, who lives near the house, often stayed at the child's home. He has confessed to sexually assaulting her multiple times. The police had arrested Sandhya, 35, on Tuesday after the child's body was found in the Chalakudy river. Although Sandhya had confessed to the crime, her statements were inconsistent.
The woman was charged with murder under section 101(3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanita (BNS). The postmortem report has also confirmed "asphyxia due to drowning" as the cause of death.
