Kerala Police Book TG Mohandas Over Remarks on Jantar Mantar Protests

Mohandas, a former head of the BJP’s State intellectual cell, posted a video of himself saying he “would have shot” the protesters at Jantar Mantar if he were in control

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police's Cyber crime wing has registered a case against right-wing political commentator T G Mohandas over remarks he made in a YouTube video about the students' protest in Delhi.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) launched by Thiruvananthapuram Cyber police, the case was registered following a complaint alleging that the videos uploaded on Mohandas' YouTube channel "Pathrika" were intended to disturb public peace and create public fear and incite riots.

The FIR invokes Sections 192 and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 66 of the Information Technology Act and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act.

The case has been registered under provisions relating to provocation with intent to cause a riot, publication of statements likely to create fear or alarm and disturb public tranquillity, specified computer-related offences under the Information Technology Act, and provisions of the Kerala Police Act concerning public order.

'Would've opened fire at students'

Mohandas, a former head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s State intellectual cell, posted a video of himself saying he “would have shot” the protesters at Jantar Mantar if he were in control. The video was posted on his YouTube channel Pathrika on Sunday.

In a 30-minute video, Mohandas speaks at length about how he would have tackled the student protests by the CJP and other major Opposition outfits against the NEET exam irregularities. “The crowd would be asked to disperse,” Mohandas says in the video. “The announcement would be made three times through public address systems. Then, there would be firing. People will run in a chaotic and hurried manner. Some people will die, others will get injured.”

“Within four hours, the situation will be under control. The bodies will be moved to hospital.” In another video posted later, Mohandas says that “Police should be withdrawn from the area, and it should be left to the protesters. Rapes will happen, mass rapes…there are girls who like rape…there are people who like rapes, especially, leftist, secular, democratic, proletarian class of people…if someone dies because of this, they will get a martyr…When mass rapes happen, there won't be any complaints, because these are the people who like rape.”

The FIR states that the complaint was received by the Cyber Police through email on July 29 and was entered in the station petition register before Crime No 95/2026 was registered.

Police have alleged that the videos were uploaded and circulated on July 24 and 25 with the intention of disturbing public tranquillity and creating unrest by spreading fear among those who participated in the protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

Further investigation is under way.
