PSC Chairman Cannot Claim Special Privilege: VD Satheesan

Thiruvananthapuram: Keralam Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Wednesday said the PSC chairman cannot claim any special privilege and warned of legal action by police if he refused to cooperate with the Crime Branch investigation into alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the state recruitment body.
He was responding to questions about the reported stand of the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman that he would not appear for questioning at the Crime Branch headquarters as part of the ongoing investigation.
"Nobody has any special privilege. Even very important people are summoned for questioning in this country. Everyone is a citizen here," Satheesan said.
The PSC is facing serious allegations that candidates were cheated by committing irregularities in examinations, he said.
"If someone takes the stand that they will not cooperate with the investigation, the police will pursue legal action. Nobody can take such a stand," the CM said.
Satheesan said everyone, including himself, had cooperated with investigations when required.
"The PSC chairman does not have any special status. A major fraud had taken place. Questions of the investigators have to be answered and the documents sought by them have to be provided. Otherwise, the police will take legal action," he added.
The chief minister's remarks came amid an ongoing Crime Branch inquiry into alleged irregularities in PSC examinations conducted during the previous LDF regime.
