THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Chief Minister’s Office has written to Meta and the Union IT Ministry after posts from the official Facebook page CMO Kerala were removed.
The missing posts included an announcement of Onam festival bonus for ASHA workers and greetings for Nabi Day.
The CM’s office has demanded that the posts be restored immediately and sought clarification under IT rules on why the content was removed.
In a letter sent by the Chief Minister’s secretary, Rathan U. Khelkar IAS, the office demanded that the posts be restored immediately and sought clarification under IT rules on why the content was taken down. The letter also urged the Union IT Ministry to intervene to ensure such actions are not repeated in the future.
Earlier, Meta had faced questions from the Kerala Police chief after several posts critical of the Chief Minister and government were deleted. Meta clarified that the removals were not at the government’s behest but due to technical errors in AI tools used to monitor content. The company explained that its AI systems check posts for compliance and that glitches in this process had led to some posts being wrongly removed.
It may be recalled that Satheeshan on August 13 denied claims that he had asked Meta to remove news items related to him or the Congress-led UDF Government from Facebook.
His response came after the Opposition LDF accused the UDF government of imposing an “undeclared social media emergency” by allegedly taking down several posts and news reports linked to the arrest of Youth Congress leaders on synthetic drug peddling charges.
