Police Action Against Rahul, Priyanka Condemned
Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheeshan on Tuesday joined Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders in a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has announced a statewide protest on Wednesday against the alleged police high-handedness toward Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Wayanad MP Priyanka Vadra Gandhi, and several senior party leaders in Delhi. Congress workers will stage marches and processions in all district headquarters as part of the protest. Kerala PCC President Sunny Joseph strongly condemned the police and central forces for allegedly assaulting Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretaries Priyanka Gandhi and K.C. Venugopal, and other elected representatives, who were reportedly pushed and shoved by Delhi Police during a demonstration in front of the Prime Minister’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg on Tuesday evening.
He called the police action “highly objectionable and undemocratic.” Along with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, the police arrested K.C. Venugopal, Minister P.C. Vishnunath, and MPs Kodikunnil Suresh and Dean Kuriakose, who were allegedly treated roughly. He stressed that elected leaders have the right to protest and voice people’s concerns, and using force to suppress these rights is unacceptable. The PCC president warned the Modi government not to think the Congress’ fight for India’s future can be silenced through police action. “By suppressing protests, the government is undermining democratic values,” Joseph said, adding that the Congress will keep supporting students inside and outside Parliament. The protests were sparked by an alleged question paper leak in NEET-UG and other exams, with students calling for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Sunny Joseph urged the Prime Minister to hear the youth’s concerns and engage in dialogue with them.

Shivakumar and MPs from Kerala also joined, backing the call from senior Congress leaders for unity and solidarity nationwide.
