Parents Raise Alarm Over Proposed Waste-To-Energy Plant At Sainik School Kazhakootam
The association said Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V V Rajesh visited the Sainik School premises: Reports

THIRUVANANTHAPURA: The Parents Association of Sainik School Kazhakootam in Thiruvananthapuram district has expressed concern over the corporation's plan to set up a solid waste-based Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant on the school land.
The association said Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V V Rajesh visited the Sainik School premises on Wednesday along with Corporation officials to explore the possibility of setting up the plant on about 20 acres of school land.
The Parent Association has described the proposal as a matter of serious concern for the school community.
It said the residential defence institution houses more than 600 cadets and that the movement of external waste - transport vehicles and personnel near the campus could pose security risks.
Parents have also flagged potential health and hygiene issues, including odour, air and water pollution, flies and mosquitoes, which could affect the well-being of the cadets.
The association, while fully supporting the scientific waste management and renewable energy initiatives, stressed that the suitability of locating such a plant within or adjoining a residential defence educational campus needs thorough examination.
Mayor V V Rajesh was not available for comments. However, the corporation sources said that fears of the people will be allayed and issues will be resolved amicably.
