One person killed, four others injured in Kochi café explosion
One person was killed and four others injured in an explosion at I'Deli Cafe inside the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium complex in Kaloor, Kochi on Thursday.
Thiruvananthapuram: One person was killed and four others injured in an explosion at I'Deli Cafe inside the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium complex in Kaloor, Kochi on Thursday.
The dead was identified as Sumit a migrant worker hailing from West Bengal.
The incident took place when the staff of the Cafe was at work near a boiler in the Cafe. The boiler exploded with a loud noise. Of the four other workers who sustained injuries in the incident, one is in critical condition.
The explosion in the cafe created panic in the area. Locals who rushed to the scene after the incident shifted the injured to hospital. Very few people were in the Cafe at the time of the explosion.
Sumit who sustained severe burns and head injury in the incident was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition but his life could not be saved.
Palarivattom police station circle inspector Rupesh said that the accident occurred when the boiler exploded. Sumit sustained serious head injuries in the accident.
The cops will ascertain whether all the safety norms were adhered to at the Cafe. A forensic team will examine the site of the accident and a case will be registered against the hotel owners.
