Nipah Confirmed in Kerala's Malappuram District

The infection's source is unclear.

Hyderabad: The Nipah virus has been confirmed in Kerala. A 42-year-old woman from Valanchery, Malappuram district, is diagnosed and receiving treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna.

She has been treated for a week for fever, cough, and breathing difficulties. As her condition persisted despite medication, samples were tested at Kozhikode Microbiology Lab and Pune NIV Lab, confirming Nipah infection.
The infection's source is unclear. Health officials are tracing her contacts from the past week to curb potential spread. The district administration advises wearing masks in public to prevent transmission.
