Monsoon Gains Strength, Heavy Rainfall In Kerala Till May 30
The IMD has stated that strong westerly winds are expected to affect Kerala over the next five days. A high intensity depression is currently located over the northwestern Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha coast.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the southwest monsoon gaining strength, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy and intense rainfall in many parts of Kerala till May 30.
The IMD has stated that strong westerly winds are expected to affect Kerala over the next five days. A high intensity depression is currently located over the northwestern Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha coast. This depression is moving northward and is likely to intensify into a severe depression within the next 24 hours, resulting in widespread rainfall in the state.
Red alert has been sounded for Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasargod on May 29. The Red Alert will extend to Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasargod on May 30, with a forecast of extremely heavy rainfall.
As per the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall of more than 204.4 mm of rain within 24 hours.
Orange alert has been sounded for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram , Kozhikode and Wayanad on May 29 and in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad on May 30 and Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod on May 31.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Disaster Management Authority has issued a warning about extremely heavy rainfall which could lead to various disasters. It predicted intense rainfall in a short period, resulting in possible landslides and flash floods.
Additionally, there is a risk of waterlogging in urban areas and generally low-lying areas.
The KSDMA has urged both the public and government agencies to exercise extreme caution in light of these conditions.
