Liquor Policy Discussions to Begin on Sept 23: Keralam Excise Minister Liju

The UDF government had announced it would roll out a new liquor policy after it came to power in May this year

Thiruvananthapuram: Discussions on the new liquor policy of the Keralam government will begin on September 23, Excise Minister M Liju said on Thursday. The UDF government had announced it would roll out a new liquor policy after it came to power in May this year.

Speaking to reporters, Liju said the discussions would be held till September 28.
He said additional time would be provided if required and the general public would also have an opportunity to share their views on the policy.
"Unlike ever before, we are collecting opinions from more organisations that work on anti-liquor and anti-narcotics campaigns. After gathering views from all sections of people, we aim to formulate a very balanced and socially responsible liquor policy that is also suitable for advancing Keralam's tourism and industry," Liju said.
Asked whether the UDF would be consulted on the liquor policy, the minister said the coalition partners would certainly be consulted.
"When officially formulating our policy, it will only be done after collecting the opinions of the coalition partners and acting accordingly," he said.
