Kerala woman’s death during delivery at home, Cops book husband

Sirajuddin has been charged with culpable homicide and destruction of evidence.

Kerala police have registered a case against Sirajuddin in connection with the death of his wife, Asma, 35, who died from excessive bleeding after delivering a baby at their rented home.

Sirajuddin has been charged with culpable homicide and destruction of evidence.

Earlier, the Perumbavoor police had filed a case of unnatural death based on a complaint from Asma's uncle, and the case was subsequently transferred to the Malappuram police station.

Malappuram district police chief Viswanadh R. informed the media that Sirajuddin's statement is currently being recorded. If any other individuals are found to be involved during the investigation, they will also be included in the case.

The superintendent of police mentioned that Sirajuddin claimed to be a spiritual person and cited spiritual reasons for choosing home delivery. The couple had reportedly followed the same procedure during their previous two deliveries.

The statements of Asma's family members and friends are also being collected as part of the investigation. Asma gave birth to her fifth child at their home in East Kodur on April 5. She reportedly died at 10 PM due to excessive bleeding.

After her death, Sirajuddin hired an ambulance, placed Asma's body inside, and took his four other children along with the midwife and the newborn in his car, driving nearly 150 kilometers to Asma's family home in Perumbavoor.

Relatives confronted Sirajuddin when he attempted to bury the body without informing anyone.

Health officials in Malappuram stated that Asma was cooperative with staff when providing accurate information about her pregnancy. The couple had been living in the rented house for over a year and a half and had maintained a distance from their neighbors, having little to no communication with the locals.
