Kerala Woman Pushed Off Moving Train by Drunk Man near Varkala
20-year-old Sreekutty remains in ICU; accused arrested and charged with attempted murder under BNS

Thiruvananthapuram: A 19-year-old girl who was allegedly pushed out of a moving train by an intoxicated passenger on Sunday night is undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. Hospital authorities said her condition has improved but remains serious, with specialists continuing treatment for head and spinal injuries.
The shocking incident occurred in the general compartment of the Kerala Express shortly after it departed from Varkala station around 8.30 pm. The accused, identified as Suresh Kumar of Panchimood in Thiruvananthapuram district, allegedly kicked and pushed the girl, Sreekutty, following an argument near the toilet.
As passengers raised an alarm, police launched a search and found Sreekutty lying on the tracks about 2 km from Varkala station. The assailant also attempted to push her friend, but she managed to hold onto a handrail until co-passengers pulled her back to safety.
Doctors reported around twenty wounds on Sreekutty’s body. She suffered severe bruises to the head and spine, and there are concerns about a possible brain injury. Hospital officials said she is receiving all necessary treatment, though her family earlier alleged delays in care.
According to the FIR, Suresh Kumar, who was heavily intoxicated, pushed the victim from behind in frustration when she did not move from the doorway. Other passengers caught the accused soon after and handed him over to the Railway Police, where he later confessed to the crime.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with commuters and activists condemning the lack of police presence in the general compartment of the superfast train at the time of the attack.
