THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala bid a tearful farewell to N Ramachandran, who was shot dead by terrorists in Pahalgam.

Hundreds of people, including Governors, Ministers, people from various walks of life, paid their homage to the martyr at Changampuzha Park in Kochi on Friday.

Ramachandran, 65, was cremated with full state honours at the crematorium in Edapally.

Ramachandran had gone to Kashmir with his wife Sheela, daughter Aarti and grandchildren to enjoy the vacation of his grandsons. Recounting the harrowing experience, Aarti told mediapersons the other day that a terrorist came and asked her father about Kalma. When her father told him that he didn't understand what he asked, the terrorist shot him at point-blank. He died on the spot.

"Bharat Mata ki Jai" slogans reverberated at the Changampuzha Park and later at the Crematorium. Ramachandran, an ex-NRI, was an active member of the BJP.

Kerala Governor Rajendra Arklekar, Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, Union Minister Suresh Gopi, Industries Minister P Rajeev, Kochi Mayor M Anil Kumar, Ernakulam Collector N S K Umesh and people from various walks of life paid their last respects.
