Kerala Government Medical College Teachers Protest From January 13

The KGMCTA has been voicing demands such as removing anomalies in the pay revision order, clearing unpaid salaries and DA arrears, addressing temporary and mass transfers, filling faculty shortages, and improving facilities for both doctors and patients.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The medical education teaching sector and patient care services in Kerala are set to face major disruptions from January 13, following a protest announced by the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers Association (KGMCTA), the largest body of medical college doctors in the state. Teaching activities in medical colleges will be indefinitely boycotted from that date, and doctors will refrain from all non-emergency medical services. KGMCTA state president Dr. Rosenara Beegum T stated in a release that essential services will remain unaffected by the protest, with casualty services, labour rooms, various intensive care units, inpatient services, emergency surgeries, and post-mortem examinations continuing as usual.

The KGMCTA has been voicing demands such as removing anomalies in the pay revision order, clearing unpaid salaries and DA arrears, addressing temporary and mass transfers, filling faculty shortages, and improving facilities for both doctors and patients. Despite assurances from Health Minister Veena George on November 10, 2025, none of these issues have been addressed, and the government has yet to take any action to resolve them.
