Four doctors in Kerala booked for birth of newborn with genetic disorders
Alappuzha:Police in Alappuzha have booked four doctors following a complaint from a family about the birth of a child with genetic disorders.
The cases were registered under sections 125 and 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against two doctors from a private scanning center and two from the Government Women and Children Hospital, Alappuzha. The doctors at the scanning center failed to detect the child's deformities during the check-ups.
Health Minister Veena George has mandated an investigation into the alleged medical negligence. A specialized team headed by the additional director of health services will scrutinize the doctors' lapses.
The minister declared that stringent action would be enforced against those found culpable after the investigation.
The family's complaint of medical negligence states that the infant was unable to open its eyes even 20 days post-birth. Deformities were also detected in the ears and nose.
The scanning center officials reported that their scan clearly indicated the presence of excess amniotic fluid in the mother's womb, which prevented the radiologist from detecting the medical issues.
