Eighth Grader’s Plea to Kerala CM: “Bring My Parents Closer”

She believes the Chief Minister will read her letter and help

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The name Kalloos might not ring a bell at first. It belongs to Devangana, an eighth grader at Vilappilsala Santiniketan School in Thiruvananthapuram. Behind this playful nickname is a touching story one that has now found its way to the Chief Minister of Kerala.

Devangana’s parents both work in the Industries Department. Her father, a Senior Superintendent, was recently promoted and posted to Kasaragod, at the northern edge of the state. Her mother, a Cooperative Inspector, was transferred to Kayamkulam, far in the south. For 12-year-old Devangana, this meant one thing she was left alone at home, with neither parent close by.

In a neatly written letter to the Chief Minister, she expressed her concerns: “Respected Chief Minister Sir,

I am currently in 8th grade. Both my parents work in the Industries Department. My father is posted in Kasaragod, and my mother has recently been transferred to Kayamkulam. With no one at home to look after me, I kindly request that my mother be transferred back to an office in Thiruvananthapuram.”

Once close-knit and full of love, this small family has been torn apart by administrative transfers. For Devangana, being without her parents feels unbearable. With no one else to turn to, she asked her uncle for the Chief Minister’s address and sent her heartfelt request straight to the state’s top office. Her hope is simple she just wants one parent back with her in Thiruvananthapuram. With the innocence of a child, she believes the Chief Minister will read her letter and help.
