Eight CPM Workers Surrender In Sadanandan Master Hacking Case

Sadanandan Master lost both his legs in the attack that took place on January 25, 1994. The RSS worker who is now BJP Kerala state vice president was recently nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Supreme Court rejecting their plea challenging the High Court sentence, eight CPM workers who were convicted in connection with the attack on RSS worker Sadanandan Master 31 years ago, surrendered before a court in Kannur in Kerala on Monday.

Sadanandan Master lost both his legs in the attack that took place on January 25, 1994. The RSS worker who is now BJP Kerala state vice president was recently nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

At the time of the incident that took place in Mattannur, Sadanandan who retired as school teacher, was the RSS saha karyavahak in Kannur district.

The CPM workers convicted in the case surrendered before the Thalassery sessions court. Early this year, the appeal filed by the accused against seven years imprisonment was rejected by the High Court. All the convicted persons were moved to Kannur Central Jail.

A trial court in Kannur had convicted and sentenced the accused in 1997 following which they moved the High Court. However, the High Court upheld their conviction in January this year. The leaders had been absconding for seven months and surrendered as their warrant expired on Monday.

The High Court, while observing that the seven-year rigorous imprisonment awarded to the convicts was lenient, had increased the fine amount from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 in February 2024. A group of CPM workers assembled outside the sessions court and raised slogans in favour of the convicts as they were being taken to the Kannur Central Jail.
