Statewide Hartal in Keralam Today Over Nithin Raj Death
Dalit and Adivasi organisations call for a hartal in Kerala on Tuesday: Reports

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Various Dalit and Adivasi organizations have called for a state wide hartal in Kerala on Tuesday, demanding the arrest of those responsible for the death of first-year BDS student Nithin Raj at Kannur Dental College, Anjarakandy.
The strike, organised by the Justice For Nithin Raj Action Council with support from Dalit and Adivasi groups, will be observed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 52 organisations participating in the protest.
The action council has exempted essential services from the hartal and stated they will not forcibly stop vehicles. They have also appealed to the public to cooperate with the protest.
The demands raised by Dalit and Adivasi organisations include the implementation of the Rohith Vemula Act, Rs 10 crore compensation for Nithin Raj’s family, revocation of Anjarakandy Dental College’s affiliation, and a judicially monitored probe into the case.
Nithin Raj, a 22-year-old student from Thiruvananthapuram, was allegedly subjected to harassment over his caste and skin colour by faculty members. He was found seriously injured on the college campus on April 10 and later succumbed to his injuries, sparking massive outrage across the state.
