CPIM Seeks Probe into Black Money Allegations on BJP Kerala Poll Funds

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior CPI(M) leader V Sivankutty on Friday urged the UDF government in Kerala to register a case and constitute an SIT to probe the alleged financial irregularities in the BJP's Assembly election campaign in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, Sivankutty said media reports regarding the alleged diversion of crores of rupees in the Kerala BJP were "extremely serious" and warranted an impartial investigation.
He alleged that past experiences showed such accusations were not "mere smokescreens" and claimed that corruption and black money transactions had become part of the BJP's political culture.
"The reports and the evidence that have surfaced in the media cannot be brushed aside. The state government should immediately register a case and appoint a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure an effective and impartial probe," he said.
Sivankutty further alleged that such financial frauds, carried out by deceiving the public and even keeping party workers in the dark, were an affront to the democratic system.
He contended that the issue was not merely an internal matter of a political party but a serious criminal case involving large-scale financial irregularities and alleged black money transactions, and called for urgent action by the government.
The CPI(M) leader's remarks came days after Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar dismissed as "false" a purported BJP office circular found on social media and television channels in his name regarding the party's election finances.
In a recent Facebook post, Chandrasekhar had said no financial irregularities related to the Assembly election campaign had been detected within the party and asserted that the BJP had completed audits at the national, state, district and constituency levels soon after the polls.
He had maintained that the party's election campaign in Kerala was conducted through a transparent system.
Chandrasekhar had also alleged that "anti-national forces" and political rivals were spreading fake news out of jealousy over the BJP's growth and leadership, and warned of legal action against those responsible for creating and circulating such content.
