Consumer court in Kerala orders tailor to pay Rs 12,350 fine for stitching wrong size shirt
Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a fine of ₹12,350 on a tailoring unit for failing to stitch a shirt to the correct measurements.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a fine of ₹12,350 on a tailoring unit for failing to stitch a shirt to the correct measurements.
The commission's order was issued in response to a complaint filed by Thomas Jimy of Thrikkakara against a private tailoring unit located in Palarivattom.
In August 2023, Jimy visited the tailoring shop with an existing shirt to ensure that the tailor could replicate the correct size. However, he was shocked to discover that the shirt he received was oversized and unusable due to incorrect measurements.
Despite requesting alterations, Jimy did not receive any response from the tailoring unit. After sending a legal notice that went unanswered, he decided to take the matter to the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, seeking compensation for the mental anguish he experienced.
The commission concluded that the tailoring unit had failed to deliver the promised service. The fine imposed includes ₹550 for the tailoring charge, ₹1,800 for the cost of the fabric, and ₹5,000 each for mental anguish and court expenses.
According to the Commission's statement, the fine must be paid within 45 days.
