Chennithala Directs SIT Probe Into PSC’s Special Recruitment of SFI Leader as Deputy SP

The direction was issued to Ajitha Begum, head of the Crime Branch Special Investigation Team (SIT), following a complaint filed by Save University Forum chairman R S Sasikumar

Thiruvananthapuram: Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday directed the Crime Branch SIT to probe allegations of irregularities in the Kerala PSC's move to appoint an SFI leader as a deputy SP through special recruitment.

The direction was issued to Ajitha Begum, head of the Crime Branch Special Investigation Team (SIT), following a complaint filed by Save University Forum chairman R S Sasikumar.

The complaint alleges that the PSC attempted to appoint Ernakulam-based SFI leader K J Jithin in violation of prescribed norms and procedures, an official release said here.

It alleges that the move was made under the leadership of PSC chairman M R Baiju.

According to the complaint, Jithin had passed his B Com course only with grace marks and had failed to secure a place even in the main rank list for the police constable recruitment examination.

The complainant alleged that the PSC had hurriedly completed the recruitment process towards the end of the previous government's tenure, apparently with the intention of ensuring Jithin's appointment before the LDF government left office.

A total of 17,392 candidates had applied for the post. The last date for submitting applications was September 10, 2025.

The written examination was held on December 31, 2025, followed by the physical efficiency test on March 16, 2026.

Interviews were conducted on April 22, and the final rank list was published on May 6.

The complaint alleged that completing the entire process within such a short period was intended to facilitate Jithin's appointment before the end of the government's term.

It alleged that appointing a person facing several criminal cases directly as a Deputy Superintendent of Police amounted to a serious violation of rules and dereliction of duty.

The SIT has been asked to examine the allegations, the release added.

The Special Investigation Team led by Begum is investigating several complaints of alleged irregularities and examination fraud in recruitments and appointments managed by the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC).

It has questioned PSC chairman M R Baiju and several other commission members and made multiple arrests.

The Kerala Public Service Commission has challenged the probe and the prosecution sanction granted against its members before the Kerala High Court.

The High Court has reserved its judgment on the plea.
