Beer-Laden Lorry Overturns in Kozhikode, Driver Killed

Thiruvanthapuram: A lorry carrying over 700 cases of beer bottles overturned on the highway in Kozhikode city, killing the driver on Monday.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. near the Iringadanpalli junction when the vehicle lost control after hitting a car. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Akhil Krishnan from Pulpally in Wayanad district, was trapped in the wreckage for nearly an hour.He was rushed to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital but could not be saved.
With beer bottles scattered across the road, police from nearby stations were called in to prevent theft, and the area was cordoned off.
Police said the truck was on its way from Karnataka to a Beverages Corporation outlet in Ernakulam. A team of excise officials arrived at the accident site and began documenting the process of clearing the scattered beer bottles from the road.A case has been registered against the driver of the car, which was allegedly being driven negligently at the time of the incident.
