Argentina – Spain FIFA World Cup Final Kerala Minister Flooded With Requests For Holiday
The minister told reporters he has been receiving numerous calls over the past few days asking for the holiday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Education Minister N Samsudheen has been inundated with phone calls requesting a holiday on Monday due to the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, putting pressure on him to make a quick decision.
The minister told reporters he has been receiving numerous calls over the past few days asking for the holiday. “We have not yet decided whether to declare a holiday on Monday. It’s difficult to cut down on study days, as an extra day would have to be given later. But we can’t say anything on this for now,” he said. Supporters of the idea argue that the move would encourage children to play sports, allowing them to watch the late-night match without worrying about waking up early for school the next day.
Pala Municipality in Kottayam district has called for a holiday not just for schools but for colleges too. Municipal chairperson Diya Binu Pulikkakandam, speaking on behalf of the council, said she has submitted a request to the general education minister and the higher education minister.
She stated that the holiday would ensure students watching the final, expected to last into the early hours of Monday, don’t feel sleepy and tired during classes.
With Argentina enjoying a massive fan following in Kerala, it’s safe to say that every household in God’s Own Country will have its TVs on all night. Huge screens are also being set up in public spaces like auditoriums, stadiums, and street corners to give fans a stadium-like experience.
In view of the football fever gripping the state, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is making sure there are no power cuts during the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday. To ensure uninterrupted service, KSEB will purchase power at a higher cost and provide a round-the-clock supply on July 19 and 20.
