Alleged Derogatory Post About PM Modi
Kozhikode Cyber Crime Police Arrest Transgender Makeup Artist Janmoni Das

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transgender Makeup artist and social media influencer Janmoni Das was arrested by Kozhikode City Cyber Police on Thursday for allegedly insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by Mahila Morcha office bearers. Since the charges against her are bailable, she will be released on station bail. The remarks, considered derogatory, were made in a social media post while reacting to a recent protest by the Bharatiya Janata Party and other organisations at Jantar Mantar.
The case was filed after a Mahila Morcha made a complaint with Kozhikode City Police Commissioner A P Shoukath Ali. Police have charged Janmoni under Sections 192 and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act.
According to the FIR, the accused knowingly intended to cause unrest and disrupt public peace by making social media remarks that defamed and insulted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The social media post stirred controversy, prompting Janmoni to post an apology video on her accounts. In the video, she clarified that she was not referring to the Prime Minister’s mother but was simply asking a question related to the content, not making remarks about Modiji. She admitted she might not have expressed herself clearly in Malayalam and insisted she never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings.
Acknowledging her mistake, she apologised sincerely, asking for forgiveness as a young person. She added that after checking on Google, she realised her statement was wrong and admitted she should have verified the facts beforehand.
